In the early eighties, I taught what was called at the time “at-risk kids.’ At the risk of what you might ask? Just about any social malady you could think of, from hunger, family underemployment (meaning essentials at home were in short supply), teen pregnancy, gang affiliation, gun violence, dropping out of school, or basically anything that poverty might bring to your doorstep.

One day a pied piper of a man named Ed McCabe came into my classroom. He offered a rowing experience for my students. It was in the Boston Navy Yard National park. A stone throw from Old…

I am a big proponent of Personal Branding with my students. Making your own luck by showcasing your skills in a manner that shares and informs. The problem for me is the old saw of “the cobblers kids have no shoes.” For my final project in #EDC534, with professor /mentor Rennee Hobbs of URI, I created a website that creates some additional digital footprints. Baron Ryan is described on his Linked In Account as an aspiring Screenwriter and Boston Area Comedian. He has over 900,000 followers on Tik Tok @AmericanBaron . I liked his short-form storytelling skills. He creates characters and plays multiple parts himself. A change of clothes, a wig…
